Question 1: What season did you join the club?

1991/1992

Question 2: Why did you become involved in Surf Life Saving?

My brother Jonathan introduced me. He was heavily involved and I couldn't wait to get my bronze and start patrolling too.

Question 3: What keeps you coming back every season?

There are many things that keep me coming back… Firstly the friendships I’ve made have become integral in my life. The opportunities that are on offer as a lifesaver (in particular as a Woolamai member with our wonderful club culture) are so valuable and diverse. I’ve embraced every facet of lifesaving over 3 decades. From learning how to do my first reel and line rescue swim during bronze camp, to being in charge of helicopter rescue missions. The club has given me so many opportunities for both personal and professional growth, to meet so many quality people, and the satisfaction you get from making a real difference on the beach. Saving a life is addictive! Lastly, our beautiful Cape Woolamai.

Question 4: Who were/are your mentors in Surf Life Saving?

My brother Jon primarily, and then my lifeguarding colleagues back in the nineties..

Question 5: What do you love most about being a Surf Lifesaver at Woolamai Beach SLSC?

Tough question.. Of all the things I’ve mentioned above, I mostly love the lasting friendships I’ve made.
