Question 1: What season did you join the club?

I joined the Woolamai Surf Life Saving Club and the the overall Surf Life Saving community for the 2018/2019 season.

Question 2: Why did you become involved in Surf Life Saving?

Since grade 5 when my primary school did a tour of Upwey High School and I learned that there was such an interesting program available at the school I had been excited to get involved. As the years went on I enrolled at Upwey High School and my sister joined SLS through her bronze. Having to go down there to drop her off at her patrols I frequently got a glimpse of the club and Surf Life Saving activities. Which made me all the more curious and determined to find out. The reason I ultimately joined the program was because of the responsibility it offers a young person which In my opinion matured me and gave me a stronger identity but at the antithesis of responsibility the freedom and joyfulness it provides when the patrol is over.

Question 3: What keeps you coming back every season?

The core reason why the club and the program is such an attracting community is because of the experiences you get to be apart of. For me the majority of the reason why I am so excited to come back following seasons is because of the chemistry that i have with all my peer surf life savers, that chemistry involves friendliness, vigilance and the good old fashioned competitions between each other. Also to not forget the self progression that i wanna achieve through the club and Surf Life Saving

Question 4: Who were/are your mentors in Surf Life Saving?

Stafford Smith, a very familiar name within the club and well deserved!!! He is a man with a true love about all his friends and especially the club. Because if you do bronze with Upwey. There is a guarantee that Stafford will have shown you the morals and values, the fun and the responsibilities, the bad and the good of the whole organization. That's exactly what he did for me and the moment he took me out on my first rip swim and warm heartedly made my bronze camp a part of the club was when I knew this person is someone that I look up to and I can trust with any personal or non personal matters in my life. True mentor! Also someone who is a guy with a lot of determination and achieves his goals and personal best is Terry Aslanidis. He is a very determined member of the club and once I knew he had achieved so much in such a little time at the club. I was honestly blown away as I thought he had been in the club for much longer. With that he is a person who I have in my mind whenever i feel that I am falling behind or too “incompetent” to try something new.

Question 5: What do you love most about being a Surf Life Saver at Woolamai Beach SLSC?

There are plenty of factors in why I love being a Surf Life Saver. From the qualifications that the club offers to the peer patrolling members that are there looking over you on the shift. Although if I had to choose the thing I love most about being at Woolamai Beach SLSC, it is the fact that I get to practice every time I am down there in a dangerous beach with various ways such as, fins or boards, IRBs and even if I am lucky, Jet Skis!
