Working With Children Check (WWCC)

The Working with Children Check is a screening process for assessing or re-assessing people who work with or care for children in Victoria. Woolamai Beach SLSC complies with all government legislation, therefore anyone over the age of 18 years, MUST have a WWCC that has been acknowledged and accepted by the Membership Officer.

Important information

If you are over 18 you must have a valid Victorian WWCC to join the Club. Applying for a WWCC is FREE and is valid for 5 years. There are no exceptions (this includes Teachers and Police Officers).

  • Woolamai Beach SLSC and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) must be registered as Organisations on your WWCC.

  • Membership applications without the appropriate WWCC information will not be accepted.

Instructions on how to register for a WWCC

Step 1: Login to the WWCC website here. If you do not have an account, please make one and then proceed as normal.

Step 2: Select “Apply for check” on the right hand side of the screen and follow the instructions.

  • Include WBSLSC and LSV in your Organisations – details as follows:

  • Complete the application process.

Note: If you do not provide a valid WWCC, your membership request will not be accepted.

VIT Registered Teachers

Life Saving Victoria has advised that Clubs may accept and record a Teacher’s VIT registration. The VIT must be linked to a WWC Check; all teachers and early childhood teachers registered with VIT must notify Working with Children Check Victoria (WWCCV) of any child-related work they do outside of their teaching in a school or early childhood service, regardless of whether it is paid or voluntary work.

If a teacher’s VIT registration is suspended or cancelled, WWCCV will notify the relevant organisations that the teacher exemption no longer applies. A registered teacher who does child-related work- other than teaching in a school or early childhood service- must notify WWCCV of this work by completing the Teacher notification form.

Police Officers

Life Saving Victoria requires Police Officers to have a WWC Check – despite their exemption under the Act.

Why - Without undertaking a WWC Check referenced to LSV, there is no link between your profession as a Department of Justice employee and any volunteer organisation in which you participate. If any member in their substantive capacity as a Police Officer was to be charged with a breach of any laws relevant to this check (e.g. sexual misconduct), Life Saving Victoria would not otherwise be informed of such charges.
