Administration and Finance

Mark Bain, Administration and Finance Director

Keeping the club running smoothly behind the scenes is performed by a great team who love our wonderful club and beach

The finance and administration team continue to manage cashflow, take care of bookings for the clubhouse and residence, process thousands of entries in Surf guard and ensure we comply with the legal and government financial reporting requirements.

The year started with the recruiting and onboarding of Rochelle Olarenshaw as club administrator and James Lester as accountant. Both have proven to be invaluable additions to our club and have helped lift the quality and output of our function to a new level.

As a club we have been challenged with three separate flooding events during the summer season. These events certainly led to a material increase on the workload of many across the club, however, special mention to Rochelle who has work diligently to progress the insurance claims. Additionally, the administration load for Rochelle related to the “Pick My Project” win has been significant due to the co-ordinating of quotes, chasing and organising of trades people and aligning the activities to occur in the correct order. Of course, she has been very well supported by the grants team, Brendan Smart and Rob Murphy.

Carol Irving took on the task of increasing the rental income from the residence and has been very successful managing the broader team with ensuring tenants are charged, cleaning is undertaken and general maintenance is performed. Terry Aslanidis has continued his great work with administration of surf guard and ensuring our member registrations are well maintained and special mention re the user guides he developed throughout the year. Neil Hannan continues to support the club by providing legal and business advice and this support is very much appreciated.

Our financial position has strengthened during this financial year compared to the prior year. The grants team was very active and thank-you very much to everyone who has been involved in fundraising events throughout the season. Looking ahead we need to be careful to budget for the replacement of the water tank, potential for a new grease trap, jet ski replacement, Smiths Beach Tower retention payment and additional capital works that the clubhouse and other assets may require. Thanks to James Lester throughout the year who has ensured our accounting records are exceptionally maintained and we passed our audit with no issues recorded.

On behalf of all of us in the finance and administration team, thank you to everyone for their support during the year and look forward to seeing you down at our magnificent Woolamai Beach.
