Learn the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations

+ Course Details

You will be taught the skills and knowledge to safely: crew an IRB

  • Prepare the components of an IRB and auxiliary equipment
  • Contribute to the safe and efficient launching of an IRB
  • Identify the components of an IRB hull & motor
  • Safely and efficiently negotiate the surf while crewing in an IRB
  • Demonstrate safe crewing positions while negotiating the surf
  • Identify hazards and risks and clearly communicate them to the driver
  • Perform rescues, including conscious and unconscious casualty pick-ups
  • Perform emergency procedures

+ Course Requirements

  • You must be a current financial member of Woolamai Beach SLSC
  • You must be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment to gain the IRBC award.
  • Hold the following SLSA awards:

    • Bronze Medallion
