Learn the skills and knowledge to effectively crew/drive an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations

You will be taught the skills and knowledge to safely:

• Crew/Drive an IRB
• Prepare the components of an IRB and auxiliary equipment
• Contribute to the safe and efficient launching of an IRB
• Identify the components of an IRB motor
• Safely and efficiently negotiate the surf while driving an IRB
• Demonstrate safe crewing positions while negotiating the surf
• Identify hazards and risks and clearly communicate them to the driver
• Perform rescues, including conscious and unconscious casualty pick-ups
• Perform emergency procedures

+ Course requirements

• You must be a current financial member of Woolamai Beach SLSC, renew here
• You must be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment to gain the IRBC award.
• You must be at least 17 years of age on the date of final assessment to gain the IRBD award.
• Hold one of the following SLSA awards
  • Bronze Medallion
  • Senior First Aid
  • Resuscitation
  • IRBC (If you are applying for IRBD)
  • Marine Licence (If you are applying for IRBD)
