The 2025/26 season has been another highly successful year for Training and Development at Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club, marked by strong participation, outstanding volunteer commitment, and significant achievements across both our junior and senior membership pathways. Throughout the year, our focus remained on developing capable, confident, and skilled lifesavers while fostering a culture of learning, leadership, and community engagement.
A highlight of the season was the continued success of our Nippers program, which welcomed more than 400 enthusiastic participants aged 5 to 13. The program provided young members with essential surf awareness, water safety, rescue, teamwork, and leadership skills that will benefit them both on and off the beach. Beyond lifesaving education, Nippers also promoted environmental stewardship and community connection, helping to develop the next generation of responsible community leaders. The program's success was supported by a dedicated team of water safety personnel, Junior Age Managers, and volunteers who collectively contributed thousands of hours to ensure every session was delivered safely and effectively. Social events throughout the season further strengthened the club community, creating lasting friendships while raising valuable funds to support ongoing program delivery.
Training and education activities remained a key focus throughout the year, with the club delivering a broad range of development opportunities for members at every stage of their surf lifesaving journey. Programs included Bronze Medallion and Surf Rescue Certificate courses, Advanced Resuscitation Techniques and CPR training, Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) driver development, patrol leadership programs, and ongoing skills maintenance activities. Dedicated training camps provided immersive learning experiences, while partnerships with local schools enabled students to gain lifesaving qualifications and develop practical skills in a supportive environment.
The club also maintained a strong emphasis on operational readiness and member progression. Through a combination of structured training courses, practical assessments, leadership development opportunities, and scenario-based learning, members were supported to achieve new qualifications and maintain the competencies required for patrol service. These initiatives strengthened the capability of our patrol teams while creating clear pathways for members to advance into specialist, operational, and leadership roles within the club.
These achievements reflect the dedication and professionalism of our trainers, assessors, facilitators, mentors, and volunteer support teams. Their commitment to sharing knowledge and developing others continues to be one of the club's greatest strengths.
