Nippers Terms & Conditions

Welcome to Woolamai Beach SLSC Nippers Program Season 2023/24. Read these terms and conditions carefully to ensure a safe, fun program for your Nippers.

Membership of Woolamai Beach SLSC

By registering a child in the Nippers Program, you as the parent/guardian become a social member of Woolamai Beach SLSC for the 2023/24 season. Social membership is $30. A second parent/guardian may join for free. As a social member you will have access to club facilities during hours when the club is officially open. Parents/guardians are exempt from membership fees if they already hold another membership category and are a financial member of the club for the 2023/24 season. All members 18 years of age or older must provide a valid Victorian Working With Children Check (WWCC) registered to Woolamai Beach SLSC and Life Saving Victoria (see below for details) that includes the following occupational codes: 10 (Overnight Camps), 28 (Coaching and Tuition), and 42 (Clubs & Associations). For season 2023/24 all people 16 years and older involved in Nippers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, all Parent Helpers involved in Nippers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and all Parents / Guardians entering the Nippers beach area must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. People who have a valid exemption as per the CHO directions preventing them from being vaccinated against COVID-19 are exempt from the above.

Family membership profile – Surf Life Saving Australia

As a member of Woolamai Beach SLSC, you as the parent/guardian will need to create or update your own family membership profile (which includes each child separately) via Surf Life Saving Australia online membership portal sls.com.au/join. You have until Sunday 26 November 2023 to do this. Please note that as part of this process, you will be prompted to make payment – DO NOT PAY AT THIS TIME. This fee is paid when you enrol in Nippers. It is essential that you as the parent/guardian create or update your own family membership profile. If you do not complete this step by Sunday 26 November 2023, your place in the program may be offered to another family on the waiting list.

Working With Children Check (WWCC)

To register a child in the Nippers Program, you will be required to supply your Victorian WWCC card number (or application number). It will not be possible to register in the program unless at least one parent/guardian holds a valid WWCC, which is registered with Woolamai Beach SLSC (PO Box 49, San Remo VIC 3925 / Phone 03 5956 7311) and Life Saving Victoria (200 The Boulevard, Port Melbourne VIC 3207 / Phone 03 9676 6900). All adults who are members of a life saving club must hold a WWCC that includes the following occupational codes: 10 (Overnight Camps), 28 (Coaching and Tuition), and 42 (Clubs & Associations) to comply with LSV policy. There are no exceptions to this requirement; even professionals such as police officers and teachers must obtain a WWCC. Applying for a WWCC is free and can be done online. For details on how to obtain or update your WWCC, visit www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au.

Child supervision

One parent/guardian is required to stay in the vicinity of the beach. This is a legal requirement. In line with COVIDSafe protocols, all parents/guardians will be required to stay within the designated parent zone and social distance. Parents / Guardians of Nippers will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to participate in Nippers.

Code of conduct

All involved in Nippers are required to abide by the Nippers Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct can be found here.

For season 2023/24 due to COVID-19, Nippers will operate according to the key principles set by Life Saving Victoria:

  • Safety of members and community

  • Focus on what we can do, it is going to look different

  • Participation; connection, fun and wellbeing, focus on quality vs quantity

  • Not one size fits all, we need to be practical, clubs will need to decide

  • There are things we know and things we don’t know, right now, we will need to adapt

  • Collaboration will be key; we are here to help and we will communicate

  • Arrive, participate, leave

  • We are in this together

Age requirements and groups

Nippers program is for children aged 6-13 years. Your child’s age group is calculated by the age they are at 30 September each year.

For example, if your child is aged 10 years at 30 September, they will be in the Under 11 age group. Each age group has a different coloured cap, to distinguish them on the beach.

Age group cap colours

  • Under 6 White

  • Under 7 Purple

  • Under 8 Red

  • Under 9 Yellow

  • Under 10 Light Blue

  • Under 11 Dark Blue

  • Under 12 Light Green

  • Under 13 Dark Green

Parent roles

Each participating child must have a parent/guardian as a parent helper. Woolamai Beach SLSC is a volunteer organisation and as such, we require every Nippers family to help with running the program in some way. There are a wide variety of jobs to volunteer for. Leftover jobs will be allocated to families who do not volunteer for a job at time of registration.

Weather conditions

Any changes to the program due to weather will be communicated via the Nippers Facebook page (on Facebook, search for Woolamai Beach SLSC Nippers Group and join to stay up-to-date).

Still and moving image release

As a parent/guardian of a registered participant, you give your unreserved permission for all still and moving images taken or recorded by or on behalf of or made available to Woolamai Beach SLSC to be used in any broadcasts, telecasts and the press including website as they pertain to the Woolamai Beach SLSC and their events and activities. You may request Woolamai Beach SLSC to remove any image of yourself or your children or use of your name by notifying a committee member in writing and that you will give Woolamai Beach SLSC a reasonable amount of time to make the amendment.

Cancellation of registration

Should you withdraw from the program prior to its commencement, a refund of the program fee will be provided minus a fee to cover registration and insurance costs:

  • Withdraw on or before 15 December 2023
    $30 fee per child

No refund is available once the program has commenced.

In the event that the club is forced to cancel the program prior to commencement, the club will reserve the right to defer the program for up to 6 months from the original commencement date. If after this time the program is not run, a refund of the program fee will be offered.
